Our Journey Began in 1981 with John Harry Ferrett.. with a tradition of innovation we have delivered ground breaking solutions to manufacturing, oil and gas, mining and supply chain industries.
“The heights by great men reached and kept
Were not attained by sudden flight,
But they, while their companions slept,
Were toiling upward in the night.”
— Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
These words aptly capture the sustained effort and dedication that Panir Engineering Systems and Solutions has invested over the past seven years in advancing inventory and supply chain digitization solutions.
Our foundational hypothesis was that the robust inventory and materials management system we developed for the Santos GLNG project could be adapted and scaled to support dynamic small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) seeking to overcome the limitations imposed by reliance on spreadsheets and fragmented, siloed data systems. Embracing this vision involved considerable risk; however, the results have validated the approach. Over seven years, we partnered with an emerging steel distribution company to achieve a 280% increase in revenue while reducing staff costs as a proportion of revenue by more than 50%.
This represents the core of our ongoing journey.
In the early 2010s, Panir developed an engineering management system designed to address persistent challenges in project execution, particularly the fragmentation of information across disparate spreadsheets maintained by individuals for tracking and oversight purposes. Named Real Time Project (RTP), the system was conceived to eliminate reliance on outdated or subjective data—often lagged by up to a month—and thereby enable timely, informed decision-making. This issue remains evident today in the persistent cost overruns and schedule delays observed across major projects.
Initially targeted at large-scale (“mega”) engineering projects, the system’s scalability was rigorously tested during its deployment on the Santos GLNG project. There, RTP managed materials across approximately 18,000 work fronts and 128 laydown yards and warehouse locations, overseeing $1.8 billion in materials value. Key achievements included traceability of materials certificates for installed components, processing of 7,000 shipments, expediting of 54,000 items, and tracking of 55,000 materials certificates.
While highly effective, we recognized that RTP served as an interim solution in the mega-project domain. During the engagement period, Santos faced capital constraints that precluded adoption of large-scale enterprise resource planning (ERP) platforms from vendors such as Oracle or SAP—solutions that, in our assessment, offered inferior functionality compared to RTP. Following six successful years of service, our involvement with Santos concluded in 2020.
In late 2018, an informal discussion at a rugby match with the owner of a rapidly growing specialty steel distribution business opened a new opportunity. The client sought advanced automation capabilities, but it quickly became clear that reliable inventory management was the essential prerequisite. This marked the beginning of an intensive seven-year digitization initiative that rigorously tested and refined our original concept for application in the SME sector.
Through persistent development, adaptation, and implementation, Panir has demonstrated that disciplined, incremental progress—rather than abrupt transformation—enables organizations to achieve substantial operational and financial improvements while maintaining agility and control.Panir has provided Engineering Services to Industry since 1981. With a diverse range of clients we have provided services including
Panir’s value extends beyond traditional engineering services. Where we are engaged, we provide unique systems and tools that increase efficiency and enable all project stakeholders access to a common WBS based delivery platform.
